Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations

At Optoma we take our environmental responsibilities as a leading global provider of display and projection technology seriously. We work closely with suppliers to reduce the environmental impact of our products, as well as opting to meet international standards such as ISO 14001.

We are also governed by laws designed to improve the impact that the electronics industry collectively has on the environment. A significant milestone was the introduction of the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations in 2007. The regulations have been updated since, most recently in 2025, but their general purpose remains the same: to reduce the amount of WEEE incinerated or sent to landfill sites by encouraging the safe recovery, reuse and recycling of products and components.

According to the WEEE regulations, Optoma is classified as an electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) producer, and we are registered accordingly (UK registration WEE/HA0196VQ). Our products must be marked with the recycling symbol and date, with instructions provided for safe disposal at the product’s end of life. We also pay a share of the cost of collection, treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal of household WEEE collected in the UK.

We ensure that we meet our responsibilities via membership of a compliance scheme, which in our case is the European Recycling Platform (ERP) UK. We submit regular reports to ERP on the EEE products that Optoma has placed on the UK market and we pay fees based on the volume and type of these products. These fees include Optoma’s share of the cost of collection and treatment of WEEE.

If you have a product that you can no longer use, the product’s supplier may be able to assist you to arrange disposal or provide advice. Alternatively, the Recycle Your Electricals website is a great source of up-to-date information, including a location search tool to find recycling points.
