New ThemeScene HD83 Full 3D 1080p Projector

Taking 3D Home Cinema Picture Quality to Yet Higher Levels

London, 20th September 2011 – Optoma brings the big-screen cinematic experience home with the new ThemeScene HD83. Simultaneously bringing not only impressive 2D image quality and installation flexibility to the range, the HD83 is the company's first ThemeScene projector with Full 3D 1080p support and delivers the complete home cinema experience.

ThemeScene HD83 has best-in-class colour saturation, essential for faithful and accurate reproduction of films. Image depth and clarity have been achieved by combining high ANSI contrast levels and exceptional brightness to produce vivid images even on the largest of home cinema screens. So confident is Optoma of its picture quality that its unique guarantee warrants image and colour quality will remain as new for at least five years.

The HD83 incorporates the next generation of the Optoma frame-interpolation processing. PureMotion4 retains the smoothness of film whilst maximising the detail of every frame. PureMotion4 can be also be used in “3D mode” and can be adjusted to virtually eliminate motion blur normally visible in panning scenes.

Advanced lamp-pulsing technologies enable every frame to be analysed and fine-tuned directly from the lamp – this unprecedented control makes it possible to achieve vibrant, perfectly saturated colours across the light spectrum whilst simultaneously ensuring that only the minimum level of power is required.

For the installer or advanced end-user wanting to optimise their installation,  a full colour management system (CMS+), gives the flexibility to choose between 5 pre-set colour gamuts; HDTV (Rec 709), EBU, DLP Cinema, SMPTE-C & Native. Alternatively, fine-tune intensity and x/y co-ordinates of primary and secondary colours for ultimate calibration precision.

The Optoma HD83 produces some of the highest quality 3D images available to projector enthusiasts today.  The inherent pixel switching speed of Optoma applied DLP technology allows us to switch each pixel on and off at least 10,000 times a second, enabling the full resolution and brightness of each 3D frame to be displayed virtually without ghosting”, commented Justin Halls, Head of Product Management at Optoma. “By contrast, some other 3D technologies with pixel switching speeds generally up to 20 times slower than DLP, need to halve the resolution of the 1080P image and then use old fashioned line doubling techniques to fill in the missing parts of the image. Treating the image this way can result in a 50% loss of vertical resolution, bad ghosting artifacts and a substantial loss of brightness.”

The HD83 can be easily placed in existing home cinemas with minimal revision to the set-up since it requires no special screen, making it ideal for retro-fit projects. The HD83 has been developed in parallel with the new Optoma 3D-RF (radio frequency) glasses which use Wi-Fi technology to eliminate emitter placement and interference issues experienced with infra-red glasses. The 3D-RF glasses give superior performance to other IR based solutions, providing a longer range, superior battery life and are fully rechargeable.

A full range of analogue and digital inputs are available, including 2 x HDMI inputs with v1.4a 3D support.

The HD83 includes two pairs of 3D-RF glasses, one of which includes the RF emitter and will be available from selected retailers, priced at £2399.99.
