New ThemeScene HD87 1080p Projector

Taking Home Cinema picture quality to yet higher levels

London, October 2010 – The new ThemeScene HD87 is the successor to the widely acclaimed HD86 and the new flagship Full HD home cinema projector of the ThemeScene range. The HD87 integrates full lens shift, a choice of high grade lenses and the latest processing technologies for outstanding image quality and full installation options.

Optoma has taken advantage of technological advances to improve the already impressive ThemeScene HD86. Several important key updates have been made to create a Home Cinema projector of the very highest home cinema picture capability. The HD87 couples professionally tuned image processing to incredible light and shade detail only possible with its class leading 800:1 ANSI Contrast ratio, (80,000:1 standard contrast ratio).

Justin Halls, Head of Product Management at Optoma Europe commented, “The HD87 has not only improved brightness output to 1700 ANSI Lumens and 800:1 ANSI Contrast ratio but we’ve also taken the opportunity of advances to the Puremotion engine to implement version 3 within the HD87. The new technology has lead to the ThemeScene team being able to eliminate motion judder and optimise for 1080p 24fps content.”

“The latest developments in Image processing are integrated into the HD87. The third generation of Optoma frame interpolation technology “Puremotion3” provides fluid and natural moving images by eliminating judder and motion-blurring. The Dynamic Black feature controls contrast for high impact viewing and a fully user-adjustable 9 step iris and choice of preset colour gamuts make this projector the most versatile from Optoma.  Of course, a full range of analogue and digital inputs is implemented, including 3x HDMI v1.3. Key changes have also been made to the Colour Management System (CMS+) which already featured fine tuning of x/y co-ordinates and now includes control of the luminance value of each colour.”

The HD86 is designed for ease of installation with the choice of three optional lenses: standard lens (1.54-1.93), short throw lens (0.77:1) and long throw lens (1.93-2.9:1). ThemeScene also offer an anamorphic lens for fully automated Constant Height Projection. Each lens option is entirely integrated into the HD87’s full lens-shift capability making installation simple in any Home Cinema environment.

Optoma is committed to systematically publishing its ANSI Contrast performance in addition to the more traditional dynamic contrast value. The first major home cinema projector manufacturer to do so using an internationally recognised and measurable ANSI contrast performance figure. ANSI Contrast is measured when the projector is simultaneously displaying both black and white – many believe that this provides a much better “real world” performance indication compared to the more common “Full On, Full Off” technique that measures the projector performance when displaying a pure black screen and then a pure white screen.

The Optoma HD87 projector will be available from selected UK home cinema retailers from the beginning of October 2010. The recommended retail price for the HD87 is:

·         HD87 with standard lens - £2799 (inc VAT)
