The Optoma UHD51ALVe is a capable 4K projector at a very tempting price. Colours and brightness are its strengths making it a great contender for big match fans as you don't even need an entirely dark room to get a great picture.

Optoma has a really decent 4K projector here for not much money, especially when you throw in the 3D and Alexa skills; however, there is plenty of choice in this price range - especially if you are not that bothered about voice control or 3D.

We reckon that the Optoma UHD51ALVe is certainly worth adding to your list as you are getting a lot at a very attractive price.

Content projected at 4K genuinely looks sharper than 1080p content and optical performance is good, too.

Once you’ve carried out basic brightness and contrast adjustments, brightness in both Cinema and Native modes exceeds that of the BenQ TK800, as does contrast.

The overall result is a surprisingly bright, colourful and clear image.

Overall, the Optoma UHD51ALVe is a cracking projector

Image quality is excellent, it supports 3D where the TK800 does not and image quality is excellent both optically and in terms of colour reproduction. Plus, the versatility of having vertical lens shift, albeit manual, makes it easier to set up and more tolerant of poor projector/screen positioning than the BenQ TK 800.

When that powerful lamp has a full screen of bright HDR goodness to feed, the image really “pops”. In fact, with such uniformly bright content the HDR lift is greater than with any other sub-£2000 projector I can think of.

There’s some decent subtlety in the UHD51ALVe’s HDR colour rendering, too, aided and abetted by the projector’s 4K resolution and a general freedom from colour banding issues.

But its 3D pictures still level out much brighter than those of most affordable 3D projectors.

For sports fans, the UHD51ALVe’s brightness and rich colours are very handy indeed. The same goes, too, for 3D fans – especially given how clear and detailed its 3D pictures look.
